About New Salem
map
The Town of New Salem Massachusetts was founded in 1753 and is located in Franklin County.

Those in the area should visit the Swift River Valley Historical Society for a piece of town history. Also visit the Bears Den which is a 100 foot deep gorge that was carved by the swift river cascading off granite cliffs and this was also said to be the meeting place for Indian Tribes.

The town remains to be a quiet rural bedroom community.

Golden Bloom CD Release
Golden Bloom has always been known for their sharp melodies, vivid guitar work, and intelligent, energetic songwriting; pop music that wasn't afraid to ask listeners to think, as well as dance. Shawn Fogel launched Golden Bloom as a solo project, playing all of the instruments himself on 2009's debut full length Fan the Flames, and 2011's March to the Drums EP. A cast of multi-instrumentalists joined Golden Bloom on tour, and in the process, they started becoming a band. "At first, I tried to have everyone recreate the sound of the records," Fogel says. He soon saw that letting everyone bring their own sensibility to the songs made things more interesting. The live arrangements reshaped the songs, moving them away from the album versions. "I realized we'd be a better band if we applied the live band vibe to the writing, arranging, and recording." ATWOOD'S IS A MIX OF SEATING AND STANDING ROOM. PURCHASING A TICKET DOES NOT GUARANTEE SEATING. THIS IS A 21+ SHOW

Engineering and Entrepreneurship: Making Robotics Fly
Separately, entrepreneurship and engineering create opportunities for substantial progress in the world. Together, they imagine, design, and create the tools for our future. So the leaders of the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and the Harvard Business School (HBS) are partnering on a new event. One that explores areas for game-changing impact at the intersection of entrepreneurship and engineering and then helps advance the science, technology, and business at their core. Making Robotics Fly is our inaugural effort. The event will feature a family-friendly expo featuring dozens of start-ups, scholars, and members of the local and global robotics communities, followed by astate-of-the-art series of competitions featuring Bostons drone resources and pilots from the local community.

RLT's Staged Reading of "Queen Margaret"
Margaret of Anjou was a fierce, strong-willed, and independent woman both in actual 15th century England and also in Shakespeare's 16th century plays, but she has always been a supporting character in the stories of Henry VI and Richard III. Now, Margaret gets to be the star of her own story. RLT's Queen Margaret was initiated because there is a serious lack of compelling and well-written women in Shakespeare's oeuvre, essentially leaving women out of some of the world's greatest plays. There are no titular female Shakespearean characters who are not defined by their relationships with their male co-stars (Romeo & Juliet, Troilus & Cressida, Antony & Cleopatra, whereas Othello, Hamlet, and Macbeth are not conjoined to their female lovers' names). RLT's Queen Margaret liberates some of Shakespeare's most poignant feminist writing from a series of plays about men and their experience of history, and illuminates that buried brilliance, amplifying and celebrating a female character who is complex, passionate, powerful, and one of the greatest antiheroes Shakespeare ever created, surpassing even the compelling depth, intoxicating charisma, and sympathetic power of Richard III. Please join us for the first reading of this ground-breaking piece, and then stay for a talk-back with the artists creating this script. Delicious food and drink will be available to purchase from Gateway City Arts' Beer Garden before the show, and between the reading and the talk-back.

"Well"
TASN's production of Lisa Kron's sparkling autobiographical play, Well, features a brilliant cast and crew. Well is a funny and touching comedy about mothers and daughters, mind over body, social activism and the theatre itself. "This play is not about my mother and me", begins the character of Lisa. But of course, it is about her mother, and her mother's extraordinary ability to heal a neighborhood, despite her inability to heal herself. The play lives in the space between actual fact and subjective memory, where every good story abides. It seems at first that the playwright is breaking all the rules. The effect is delightful. By the end of the play you realize you've been taken along a psychic mobius band, passing from outer to inner perceptions while crossing no perceptible threshold. This is the best kind of playwriting. Well opened on Broadway at The Shubert's Longacre Theater in 2006. It was first produced in New York two years prior in an acclaimed and extended run at the Public Theater. Recently, Ms Kron wrote the book for the musical, Fun Home, currently running on Broadway. Fun Home won the 2015 Tony for Best New Musical. We will have talkbacks following our Sunday performances featuring local health care professionals, playwrights, and educators
