About New Salem
map
The Town of New Salem Massachusetts was founded in 1753 and is located in Franklin County.

Those in the area should visit the Swift River Valley Historical Society for a piece of town history. Also visit the Bears Den which is a 100 foot deep gorge that was carved by the swift river cascading off granite cliffs and this was also said to be the meeting place for Indian Tribes.

The town remains to be a quiet rural bedroom community.

Fun Trail Run at Fells via Orange Line p/b Vive LLC
Join the ViVe tribe in a fun trail run, exploring the east side of the Fells with fellow outdoor enthusiasts. The trails we run and hike will give you a view of Boston you've never seen before! The Fells are easily accesible from downtown Boston. We'll be on trails this weekend that will give you optimal views of downtown Boston. You can access the area from the Oak Grove T stop! It's a ten minute walk. Prerequisite: You have to be able to run 3-4 miles comfortably, have a sense of humor, be OK with stopping for a goofy "Instagram" moments (#vivellc), and bring your own gear. When the trail gets a little tricky (see weather/gear), it turns into a fast hike. It's all about the fun, knowing when to let loose, and staying safe on the trail. Seasonal Gear: Trail running shoes if you need a more stable shoe. People do run in regular running shoes. If you need to hydrate frequently, bring a back or waist hydration pack. Check the weather and dress accordingly. Example-It's better to start a little chilly knowing that you'll warm-up fast. If there's snow on the trail, wear gortex running shoes with small gators or light boots. Weather & Terrain:This is New England and our weather can fluctuate quickly. We do have seasoned runners that train in all conditions and are willing to help you acquire better skills if you are a novice. However, weather can quickly change the degree of difficulty of the trail - so ultimately it's up to you to decide your pace and zone. We also take in consideration of the groups overall ability and determine the technical degree of trail. Example-Rocky hilly terrain vs. flat-wide open trails. Orangeline: If you use the orangeline T, we meet at North Station between 9:50-10:00am and board the last car in the train heading to Oak Grove.

Paintings by Pat Peter
Join us for an artists reception of Paintings by Pat Peter Saturday, July 18 | 2 - 4 pm I use art as a tool to explore my feelings and emotions. It is difficult to express myself with words but with painting and drawing I can say what I feel using colors and images. I like using everyday objects and scenes that everyone can relate to or has experienced themselves. Many of my paintings use objects depicting human characteristics, this creates a distance, if you will, between myself and my feeling. -Pat Peter. Pat Peter first solo exhibition is on view this summer in theFront GalleryatGateway Arts. The work shown evokes emotional responses to her saturated use of color. Visit The Gateway Gallery Monday - Friday: 9:00 am - 4:30 pm | Saturday Noon - 5 pm Preview the exhibition online here.

Hear the Co-Founder of Ministry of Supply Gihan A., the largest Kickstarter funded clothing company.
You perform on the job. But your clothing doesn't. Clothing hasn't evolved much in the past 100 years. The fabrics themselves haven't evolved much in 500 years. Enter Ministry of Supply -- the Boston-based clothing startup that has raised more money through Kickstarter than any other clothing company. You'll see why. The cofounders including our speaker Gihan Amarasiriwardena met at MIT. They're technology tinkerers. They applied MIT-, NASA- and Defense-funded technology to your clothing. Customers and investors have flocked. They made your clothing smart. Maybe even smarter than you. Side vents. Responsive fabrics. Clothing that grips in some places, slides in others, relaxes in other areas.. Ones that disperse heat better so you don't get flop sweat. Technology that's hidden so you don't look like Inspector Gadget but your clothing behaves like his. You will hear more than Gihan at this meeting. You'll hear why Rotary is legendary worldwide for its 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs worldwide. And just by attending you'll help fund the Rotary Foundation which is one of the world's largest humanitarian charities with other 3,000 active projects worldwide. You might even consider joining. Make it happen; Connect for Good. Get your tickets early; we have room for only 35 people. Light Hors d'Oeuvres served. Dress code is business casual / professional.
