About New Salem
map
The Town of New Salem Massachusetts was founded in 1753 and is located in Franklin County.

Those in the area should visit the Swift River Valley Historical Society for a piece of town history. Also visit the Bears Den which is a 100 foot deep gorge that was carved by the swift river cascading off granite cliffs and this was also said to be the meeting place for Indian Tribes.

The town remains to be a quiet rural bedroom community.

Pet Tech Pet First Aid Instructor Training

What's The Program?
The Pet Tech Instructor Training is a comprehensive, three-day, interactive program. Instructors will learn the necessary skills and teaching methods to properly train pet owners in first aid and care. This course will include competent training in the identification and evaluation of the signs and symptoms a pet may develop and the appropriate actions to be taken for proper emergency medical treatment.

Who Are Our Instructors?
The Instructor Training is ideal for: obedience trainers, kennel operators, pet retailers, pet sitters, veterinarian staff, animal shelter employees, pet rescue personnel, pet groomers, EMT's, fire fighters, and any pet lover.

"Pet Tech is a vital part of my dog training business. It has been a vehicle which has increased my access to pet shelters and Humane Societies in my area. The first aid program has become part of the offered training to the staff of more than one of these shelters as a fund raiser, even being included in the curricula for a dog trainers academy. I think all dog trainers should have first aid training to provide for their students."
- Lisa Clifton-Bumpass, Pawsitive Steps Dog Training

Jad Abumrad of "Radiolab": "Gut Churn"
Jad Abumrad of Radiolab Talks Innovation and New Aesthetics

What does it mean to innovate? How does it feel to make something new in the world? What is "gut churn," and how does it drive us to create? This lecture from Jad Abumrad of the groundbreaking podcast Radiolab will touch on all these questions and more as it tears apart the creative process in an attempt to investigate the science, philosophy and art of uncertainty. Abumrad, a 2011 MacArthur fellow, pulls from his own personal story of starting Radiolab (which is often credited with launching a new aesthetic in radio storytelling) to discuss the stomach-sickening "gut churn" of negative feelings and how they can help or hurt the creative process. Part lecture, part storytelling clinic and part investigation into the art of innovation, Abumrad's Gut Churn is a must-attend experience for anyone who seeks to create change.
