About New Salem
The Town of New Salem Massachusetts was founded in 1753 and is located in Franklin County.

Those in the area should visit the Swift River Valley Historical Society for a piece of town history. Also visit the Bears Den which is a 100 foot deep gorge that was carved by the swift river cascading off granite cliffs and this was also said to be the meeting place for Indian Tribes.

The town remains to be a quiet rural bedroom community.

If Only I Had Said Clear Leadership, a Powerful Model for Real Collaboration
Have you ever left a conversation when you: Were unable to think of a good response until later that day? Worried about the exchange did they misread your intentions or vice versa? Witnessed someone take something personally and then they became silent or the opposite defensive? Observed a meeting after the meeting, the informal exchange about how people really felt and what they really are going to do. Collaboration is considered to be the most important competency for the 21st century and at its core, it is all about clear communication. As we know, communication is filled with opportunities for misunderstandings. The human mind has the wonderful capacity to draw inferences and conclusions from just a little bit of data; however, when we draw these conclusions we may be wrong and often do not check them out. This workshop offers an opportunity to practice transparent communication. This can benefit your connection with clients, facilitation with groups, and even your clients skills with their staff and colleagues.Join us to fine tune your skills in clear communication: identifying and communicating your assumptions and desired outcomes, and with practice, enhancing the clarity of your thinking process. With clarity comes choice. With choice comes impact. Takeaways: Understand the Experience Cube model and how to apply it, particularly in challenging conversations Discern the 4 elements of your own experience what you observe, think, feel and want Heighten awareness of your inner dialogue for improved clarityand impact Practice the skill of describing your experience in effective, non-threatening ways using this model. Practice applying the model to one of your own situations Presenters: Carol Salloway and Janet Britcher

Show Hours

Orchids grow on every continent, except Antarctica, their flowers coveted for their eye-catching beauty and mysterious shapes. The history of orchid flowers can be traced back to ancient Greek and Roman times when people only knew of terrestrial (grow on the ground) orchids. In the 15th century in Mexico, epiphytes (grow on trees) were being cultivated for perfume and culinary use, vanilla extraction. By the end of the 18th century, 15 species of orchids, collected from the West Indies and China were grown at Royal Botanic Gardens in Great Britain. Today, whether to satisfy scientific pursuits or a hobbyists fancy, orchids are renowned throughout the world and people are passionate about adding new and different species and hybrids to their orchid collections.

Ellie Lou Walk/Run for Diabetes & Boston Children's Hospital 5K
Please join us in our walk/run to support Boston Children's Hospital and the American Diabetes Association! The American Diabetes Association is a United States-based association working to fight the consequences of diabetes and to help those affected by it. My father, Louis Baynes, fought this disease for over 10 years. I saw his day to day struggle, especially toward the end. As time went on, his health and quality of life had deteriorated. Diabetes caused him to lose most of his eye sight, the feelings in his hands and feet which eventually led to amputation of a toe and later his leg. After being on dialysis for many years, his heart just couldn't take it anymore and he passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014. About a month later, my daughter, Elliana Louise, was born with an unexpected heart defect known as transposition of the great arteries. Luckily she was born at Brigham and Women's Hospital which happens to be connected to Children's Hospital. At 4 days old, she had open heart surgery to repair her little heart. My husband and I are forever greateful for Dr. Aditya K. Kaza for saving our baby's life. It would mean the world to us if you all came out to support these two organizations! Registration starts at 9am! Walk/Run starts at 10am
